"Rules: Visiting on Saturday only from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Receiving and releasing prisoners from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m." Photographs of the old Cape Breton County Gaol by Calvin Boutilier Many readers will remember the old county jail, which closed in February 1975, and was torn down the summer of the same year. The day the jail closed, prisoners were transferred to the new Cape Breton County Correctional Cen? tre • the present-day Cape Breton Cor? rectional Centre. The old county jail was known by some as the "White House," by others as the "Grand Hotel." Kids from Constantine Elementary School will remember begging their parents for fresh ink bottles. They'd throw the bottles against the building, and later get to watch the prisoners whitewashing over the damage! llPFPrrprFrrr' PPf'frrFFrrrrr: IPifrrcrrrrrr.
