Or, a chuck box or what have you. Because he might get caught in it halfway through, and he'd need to secure it before he could go on and get the rest of his coal. So the company, they didn't give a damn. Why should they care? Let him go fish for himself, eh? But when we went to the mechanization, and the true mechanization, and we eliminated the handloading--we eliminated the con- 1 tract work, too. The man went down on (shift work). So, if he didn't get four tons--if he didn't get two tons of coal-- (the company) still had to pay him his shift. So then it was up to them to make damn sure that everything was in working order.
