They knew where everybody was going to be at all times. They'd just throw the puck and there was someone there to get it. Fran Finlayson was the goal scorer there. He was a centreman. And Timmy was left wing, and Red Angus was on the right side. But I'll tell you, when Johnny came in and Manning came in, they got us in condition. We weren't in shape, I guess. He got us in shape, and then what ability we had came out, I suppose. But they believed you had to be in shape. Like I can remember Johnny Read just--with us down there, and him with a stick chasing us and chasing us and chasing us and chasing us, and making us skate, skate, skate, skate. We got in shape, eh. And then Manny was quite a hockey player in his own day, I guess. He worked out different plays--again, mostly skating and backchecking. Like I say, the Peanut Line jelled and Freddie's line jelled. It just developed. And Bob MacKenzie made a real mainstay on the defense too, and he helped us.... And so did McKinnon. Like I say, it all jelled into the Cinderella Team and made it happen. Unreal. Bill Sidney And back in those days, the emo? tions between Glace Bay and Syd? ney- -I can't really get it across to you, how bad it was. Because just previous to that (time), when they had the Senior Hockey here--you must have heard the stories of how Glace Bay set up the barricades at Reserve and wouldn't let the wholesalers from Sydney into Glace Bay, over the famous "Legs" Fraser goal- tender story. (Can you tell me that story?) That story's been publicized hundreds of times. But the long and the short of it was. Glace Bay and Sydney--this is Senior Hockey--this is import hockey, when they were playing the best. Came down to the finals, and Glace Bay's goaltender was sus? pect. They didn't think they could win with him. And North Sydney had been knocked out. And they had an excellent goaltender by the name of "Legs" Fraser. Conveniently, the Glace Bay goaltender disappeared somewhere. So they applied to the League to ask permission to use "Legs"> Fraser. The League granted permission.
