They made it plant-wide-- they got at the paymaster--made it plant-wide. I got over $2000. And they did that on two dif? ferent occasions while I was off work. So when you're dealing with those kind of people, those people are hu? man. They're hu? man beings. You're not just a statistic or a number with them. Those are people that--you associate your life with, and you're working with them. And if they don't feel good, now.... For in? stance, if a fellow came out and he said, "Geez, I've got an awful cold." "Now, you go in the shack and stay there for the night. And we'll open the hole and we'll mud the run? ner." You looked after them. (And you're telling me the truth here? You're not trying to make the Open Hearth, or the workers, look better than they were, are you?) Oh, no. This is the way they worked. It was one big family. (Ah, but there must have been some rotten peo? ple like in any family.) Oh, yes. We had a few of them, too, now. That's why I say, I don't want to name any of them. But we had fellows, too, now, were just as miserable. We had fellows who wouldn't turn their hand to help you. But mind you, they'd pay for it in the long run. Once you knew them. I remember going to a man one time, taking up a collection. And we were only asking 50C--that was a lot of money, then. And he said, "No, I save my money. I'm not going to give you any money." Okay.
