tegrated. And the parcels or whatever--if it was food or whatever it was--were on the road. She turned back. I didn't turn back. She turned back, and took her own bag, and put that stuff in it, and handed it to him. She could not pass that man, she said--that old man--without helping him. Now, where did she get that? I don't know.... But, where did she get that? And, I haven't found out yet. Perhaps someone will. I'm still digging at it. a house and furnishings and whatnot. And she took whatever furnishings she wanted to British Columbia. "And I'm going to go back to British Columbia. And end out my days there." And she stopped by the way here, and stayed for a couple of weeks. But she was getting more and more pain. But she said, "I want to go and see all the places that I had taught Sunday School and made friends." And she had always kept up-- which she did. (How was her health?) She was a strong woman, physically. But developed a cancer of the breast early in life. Then they did a mastectomy. And seemed to get over it all right. And then--I suppose perhaps I knew her about 4 or 5 years when she said, "I've a pain in my shoulder. Would you mind rubbing it for me." And I said, "Sure." So I'd get out the linament and whatnot, and that would seem to relieve her. But that was the only symptom. And then she went back to England, and she went to her own doctor about this. And he sent her to a specialist. And the special? ist said, "I don't know what that damn fool was trying to do, sending you to me. He knows what's wrong with you. And you know what's wrong with you." So, of course, it was the secondary cancer. Then, in Naramata--that's where she was-- they were doing quite a nice job there on getting all the Protestants together, any? way. They had a joint church. And Canon Scott evidently found out that her time was getting short. So I remember he called here to talk to her, and said that he was send? ing for--what did they call it?-- "permission to hold services in the Angli? can Church in Canada." (Clara is weeping now.) 1 don't know if anybody was happier than Hilda was to get that.... I felt like saying to him, "Why did you hold off so long?" And she said, "No. This is what I've always wanted. And this is what I have. Now, I can go back to Naramata, and take the service, and give communion." You see, she could take a service, but she wasn't able to give communion, and all these other things that meant so much to her. So that's when she made up her mind, "I'll sell everything that I have here"--she had McCallum's Ceramic Tile & Flooring Ltd Showroom • K-Mart Plaza Welton Street, Sydney "Professional Installation" Ceramic Tile • Quarry Tile Carpet & Vinyl Flooring Ceramic Counter Tops 562-1291 Overlooking the Margaree Valley t the Junction of Route 19 and the Cabot Trail A full-accommodation Lodge featuring: DINING ROOM LOUNGE SWIMMING POOL SPACIOUS ROOMS Take advantage of nearby recreation: BEACHES GOLF FAIRWAYS CAMPING FRESH AND SALT WATER FISHING ' HIKING The best of Nova Scotian musicians eiitertain in our lounge every weekend. MARGAREE VALLEY And so, at least that was something that-- I always thought a great deal of Canon Scott because he must have had a big fight about it with the powers-that-be. Hilda. So. Poor So, I lost a very good friend. A very in? teresting friend. We went off on trips to? gether, and we'd--she would stay here, or she would come and visit again. And I went over to England three times to visit her. But it was a satisfying friendship of two opposites. We were so opposite to each other. She was not practical. But yet she could get so much done.
