I met another fellow coming out. He said to me, "Are you looking for the taxi driv? er?" I said, "Yes." "Well," he said, "he's gone. I'm just here looking for him my? self," he said. "We're going to have to walk home. So," he said, "we might as well walk together." So we walked and we talked. When I got to the road there, ready to leave to come up, I asked him his name, and he told me his name. It didn't ring a bell, I didn't know it. So that was all right, I come home, went to bed, and the next morning we're sitting at the table. Father and I, and I started telling him about meeting this fellow. And I said the name and he said, "What?!" And I told him the name the second time. He said, "My God." he said, "that man's been dead for years!" Most the hairs come up on my head. And I started to try and figure out what in the name of God it was. And I inquired, and I inquired, and for two years solid I really thought I had walked with a dead man! And after two years I found out that this man had a son called like him and he was in the States and he was coming down visiting to see if he could find some of his relatives. And that was the man I walked with. Sometimes, you know, you find out. But it makes you worry for a while.... And there was one night, the wife can tell you the same thing, I had an uncle living in D'Escousse, he was also my godfather. I thought the world of him, we were great friends. I was living on Cabot Street in LICENSED GUNSMITH FIREARMS • HANDGUNS • ACCESSORIES HOT TANK BLUmNG STOCKS REPAIRED J • RIFLES • SHOTGUNS • REVOLVERS • PISTOLS Zeiss, Baush & Lomb Scopes • Ammunition Authorized Browning and Ithica Dealer Hunting and Fishing Supplies Fishing Licenses SOLD HERE, Camo Clothing • Camo Boots • Camo Rainwear { Huntmg ARCHERY: Browning, PSE, Barnett Bows • Easton Arrows • WE REPAIR ALL TYPES OF FIREARMS • 335 Welton Street • SYDNEY 564-0077 567-0509 FAX 567-0952 Sydney and a Sunday afternoon we're sit? ting on the couch, the two of us, and I heard footsteps from as far as the door, and a knock at the door. So I went down the stairs, opened the door, not a soul in sight. And at six o'clock that night, I got a call that my uncle had died. Now what connection there is there, I don't know. But it's just things like that that happen, you know.... This is a small portion of a longer visit with Val Poirier. We hope to share more down the road. The story Val mentions, told by Fr.
