the grave. And so far I have never been re? fused. Mary Willa laughs. But it just de? notes that the fellow--whether he was a boy or whether he was a man--that he was a vic? tim of that explosion. The marker has a small miner's hat on it, and the date 1891. It doesn't say Springhill or anything like that, just the date 1891. I just make sure that I find a prominent spot on the grave, and place the marker where it can be seen if somebody comes along and suddenly notices that it's there, that hopefully they'll say, "Oh, okay!" And they'll read what it says on the stone as well. I have come across one fellow--the guy who is buried in Tatamagouche--it says nothing about Springhill. It just says, "Died Feb? ruary 21, 1891." Doesn't say where, what happened, or anything. So that little mark? er, hopefully somewhere down the road, somebody'11 see that little miner's hat and 1891, and they'll connect what that means. (What did you think you'd be doing, for the last 15 years?) Oh, you know--I would have like to have been employed at some? thing. But nevertheless, this has been really interesting for me. And if I didn't have it, and being unemployed--it has pro? vided me with some satisfaction and things like that, over these years of not being employed. I could be ready to go to work in a minute. But it's just the situation. You know, where things are right now. It's One of the victims of the 1891 Explosion at Springhill was Thomas Davis, age 14. He was the son of Thomas and Annie Davis and the older brother of William Davis, who later went to New Waterford, Cape Breton. At the age of 37 William Davis was shot during the miners' strilte, June 11,1925 • a murder commemorated by the annual Miners' iVIemorial Day. Then of course there are young people coming up, younger than me--what are they going to go through? What is going to happen with I them?... r Oceon Jlentolsltd. I'm a CBC Party Line corre? spondent, for "Infor? mation Morning" out of Halifax. I've been doing that for five years. I speak on the radio once a month for five minutes, talk about things to do with Springhill. It's not a paying job, but I like doing it. It's fun. Every five weeks or so I'm on the air for five min? utes. I'm on very early in the morning: it's live--6:25 in the morning I'm on the air, ready to go. And so I kind of like it: it's fun to do that.
