bombing from here for that. So it came in handy for that.... (Did you yourself ever have any trouble with a plane?) No. I put a hundred and fif? ty-six hours in that plane. (Scamp 1.) Yeah. I did run it out of fuel once, like a stupid ass. It was a nice beautiful evening in March, you know, the nice evenings you get in March, sunny and nice? I decided to go flying for a few minutes, and I checked the gas before I was going to go and there wasn't much in it. I figured, Jeeze, I'd better put some in it, and then I says, "What the hell, I'm only going to be five minutes or so, it's enough." Just going to go around the strip, that's all. A circuit or two. They'd display it up there. He said, "You know," he said, "Graham Bell, he was an American. And it was all American workers that worked on that airplane. Not all, but some of them were. And then there was a fellow from Ontario--McCurdy was from Ontario--that flew it. So," he said, "you've got the first really true Cape Bre? ton airplane that was designed, built, and flown by a Cape Bretoner." And I guess I (Here, the tape ended, and with it, our first visit with Donnie. On our second visit, he told us....)
