sound that, you know, with their cables go? ing down. They had a big steel bar, an an? gle bar, and they'd let it down--and if it would touch anything, you'd have to go and take that out, when you're through. They paid the company for taking out so much. I'll tell you an instance that happened. In Sandusky, Ohio, we cleaned out an area there. And when we were all through.... The dredge had a cook on it. He was staying aboard. He had an old pot. We were all through, he threw the old pot out. So. Pulled (the dredge) out. The government went sweeping. They were hitting something. But we were sure that everything was all dredged perfect. By hell, we had taken the spuds all out of it and taken everything out to tow across the lakes. The company had to turn around, put the spuds all in, put a crew on, put the whole thing out at the expense of about, oh, $30,000, and go out and get that whatever-the-hell they were hitting. What did they get, but the cook's old pot that he threw overboard when we were through dredging! People talk about ghosts, seeing things. But the sto? ries you tell--are they things that really happened to people?) Oh yes, yes. Now, how can a man tell months ahead of time what's going to happen? (I don't know.) How can they tell months ahead of time? (Can you?) Oh, yeah. Now, my brother came home here. And right, just where we're sitting here. He came home. My mother was living. Catherine and I were married and we had three children. And they were small. We were married and he was single, and he was out at a dance or something. And he was going to bed--in that bedroom--there was a bedroom right there. Came in, there was a table right here then, little round table. Told my mother the next day, "Don't tell Catherine or Dan Angus, but (they're) los? ing one of the children." Told her. Don't tell us. "Why?" she said. "Well," he said, "when I was coming home last night, when I was go? ing to bed, there was a little white casket on the table, with a candle on it," he said, "when I was going to bed." "Oh?" She never told. She was going to watch and see which one of the three was going to take sick. But none was taken sick. So he left. Visit an Underground Coal Mine ''' Miners' Museum Glace Bay, N. S.
