The hay truck is essentially a long set of trams • straight except for the curve where the horse goes between the shafts. The big timbers are usually cut from a single stick of wood that, already has the necessary curve. Between the timbers are rough boards, widely spaced. A stick goes upright into holes bored at the four cor? ners of the truck, and the sides are made of two sticks and tvro boards. Enormous loads of hay can be transported if it is forked on properly • building up first at the corner-sticks and sides, tramping the load often and forking the hay to the front and resir to keep a balanced load.
