(And what did Cookie and Heather do for the 1987 Revue?) Well, there's a moment in that show. Leon had written that year an opening: "Give Us Some Heat," that turned into "Give Us a Hit." And we had a medley at the beginning of the show. And it would take the form of being I think mostly songs from the previous year. But it was a great show number, and a great opening. And there was one point in that opening number, and everybody's out there: "Give us a hit"--rocking and moving. And at one point in the well- orchestrated, tremendously-arranged Dubin? sky medley, there's a key change, and the band kicks in to "A wick in a candle." And Cookie and Heather take a step forward as they start to sing it. That for me was one of the--there was just something that went through you. The minute that happened. I mean, the whole show was great. And they do the Rita tune, which is the interesting tie-in from the year before. And they do this harmony, and they both move together as only sisters (can)--the harmony, the movement of almost like one. There's just this boom--just a step forward, right? I forget who choreographed that or whatever. But in many ways it sort of symbolized or kind of encapsulized the whole thing for me, and I think for the audience too.... And I think that's what we've been able to do. If it isn't a Rankin or a Rita, these days it's a Rich? ard Burke. There's s omeb o dy, with out taking over, that's going to be a surprise for the audience, and that they'll go to to get something ex? tra. They'll get the good work they've expected from the people that come and go and stay, the com? mon denominators. And then there'11 be a new voice, or a new talent, emerging.
