sunny day and Ian and NeU and Pe'y and me we got in the car and drove out of Glace Bay talking about Mabou and seeing the other side of Cape Breton and where my people came from and should we hurry right there or go first around the Cabot Trail and spend just the evening in Mabou and maybe stay with my relatives most of them we had never seen face to face or just have tea and 't out of there and not one mention of the strike or coal though all the time it was right there back of us and back of our minds I guess also because the talk was about where I came from which was of course Mabou where my grandmother came from, though all I knew of it was what I saw in the notebooks. Which wasn't much. We talked about the Cabot Trail and which way we should go 'round • and Neil said before they had decent guar? drails people would go clockwise to be on the inside buying the mountains all the way around but that like everything today it was safe now and you could go either direction, and this time of year there wouldn't be the tourists. But really we didn't talk much and maybe we were thinking about the strike and when we did talk it was about Mabou people who were mosdy farmers and fishermen although they had coal mines over there. There were families worked there and later came to Glace Bay because they were experienced miners. But we thought of them as fishermen and farmers. My people but with a different life and a different Vacation in Louisbourg! We drove through Mabou which is a town and down to the Mabou Harbour and out to Mabou Coal Mines which aren't coal mines anymore. We thought we'd go some? where for a meal but ended up eating this and that in the car. And drinking....
