I know all the ships carry them in case of lights trou? ble. On another match I made the container with the rum in it. I got my hand around the quart, and drank about half of it. Af? ter that got down, I started to feel bet? ter. My knees quit knocking, and I was getting back quite a lot of pluck. I waited for a period, but there was no more noise. Then I lit another match and looked around the room. But there was nothing but a big wall clock and a stuffed parrot on it. My pluck was coming back again. I turned around to the table, reaching my hand out to get another bottle, when this fellow spoke from behind me, gently first. I couldn't speak even if I tried, as I figured, "This is really it." I got my hand on the bottle. I was a little happi? er: I had a weapon, and a ghost don't talk. But I found a lamp first, and then when I got that lit I found a flash? light. But later on when I went through those rooms (I found out that) there were lamps and flashlights in every room except two. And I think I was going in and out of those same two rooms all night. And when I looked again at that bottle I drank half out of, I know why I was going in and out those same two rooms! Now I had two lights and my head was after clearing some. But I was still load? ed. I was really plucky then, I was going back to tackle that fellow that stopped me from my drinking that beer, even if he was old pirate Blackbeard. Away I went. I was actually singing, not a care in the world. That is, until I got to the door of the dining room. When he heard me com? ing he started to sing, or at least I thought he was. But when I flashed the light around the corner, he started with that wicked language again. Drunk or not I was still scared. But on flashing the light around the room there was nobody in the room.
