to court. I'll tell you. Father MacPherson was so busy then, I can't tell you how busy he was. I was so scared of him. I remember when he was the priest in Glen? dale, there was a dance. There was a lady that lived alone, Mary Peter MacDonald. She had a couple of nieces, and she gave them her house for the dance. My God al? mighty you know, someone told him (Father MacPherson) about it. Those two girls were going to the dance and Father MacPherson met them on the road, and he picked them up. They didn't know that he was a priest because he had his coat pulled up over his collar. "Where are you going?" he asked. "To the dance," the girls answered. "Where's the dance?" he asked. "Oh, over here," they said. "I wonder where I could get a bottle of whiskey?" he asked. "There is a man up here making whiskey," the girls said. "Oh, that's good," said the priest. After Father MacPherson dropped off the girls, I he found the B&R; HERITAGE' ENTERPRISES presenting Cape Breton's Gaelic Tradition on CD and Cassette also ofTering Teaching Tapes & Programs for information contact P.O. Well, the girls near? ly had a fit when they found out that they were talking to the priest. Oh, Dhia, Dhia, Dhia, they nearly died from the fright. There was a man up here who was making moon? shine, and he said to be careful, because there's a lit? tle devil of a priest in Glendale now, and he's watching everything! (Laughter.) I remember, I had to leave school one day. I was sick. Father MacPherson came in our house. "Ciamar a tha thu," he said. "Why isn't Mary in school today?" My mother said, "Oh, she was sick this morning." He had a black cap on, and he drove that hat down on my head. (Laughter.) Then he was going over to John Dan MacDonald's, and he saw one of the girls jumping the fence, going over to John O'Brien's. He drove in? to John O'Brien's. There he asked, "What's that girl doing here, why isn't she in school?" "I don't know Father, I don't look after them," she said. He drove to the little girl's house, and the girl was in. So he said to the mother, "Why isn't your child in school today?" The mother told him that she was scared to go to school alone. "Well, you go with her," he said. "She'll never see a day of school if you don't go with her." Then Father Mac? Pherson gave the girl fifty cents, and he sent the girl off to school. She was rich all day then. She sat under the bridge all day, until school let out. Her sisters came out and they all came home, with the fifty cents. CONNOnS MUOSHOTS & Morc' SYDNEY SHOPPING CENTRE, PRINCE ST TEL/FAX 539-823$.
