You know, I don't dream a lot. But the other day I was telling a dream I had to Leo. He was over here. And he said, "Any? one who has a dream like that • they're lost. They're on the wrong road." Well, I guess he's right. But I don't think I ever had any bad dreams. I dream of people that are gone certain times, but I'm not afraid of them. I'm not afraid of them when they're alive and I'm not afraid of them when they're dead. (Were you ever in love?) Well, of course I was in love. But you know what I think? I think love is one of the greatest myster? ies on earth. It's like sleep. Did you ev? er stop and think of sleep? You lie down in bed and you're not sleeping. All of a sudden you are asleep. Can you explain it? Well, it's just like love. The more you love people the more cruel they are to you half of the time. That's the way I think of love. And the more cruel they are the more you love them. And I think it's a mys? tery, what makes it. It's like tears. Did you ever stop to think of tears and where they come from? Well, where is that foun? tain, where is it lodged, in the brain? Where is it? And I will tell you something more. If I were very sad, if someone close to me was about to die, I would not be a- ble to cry, not even if you shot me. But then I go to the movie house and some kind of crazy movie • and there I cry. I read a book and I cry. Well, where does the tear come from? Aw, to me it's a great mystery. And it's a foolish thing too. Like sleep. (And when you love the others get crueler and crueler?) Well, yes. There is nothing as foolish as love. For two persons who are happy in love, I suppose there is not a greater thing on earth. So that's where the great mystery comes from.
