Published by Ronald Caplan on 1985/1/1 (222 reads)the morning the farmers go and tend to the animals, and they'd find them full of sweat, they're just frothing with sweat. And some of them had died. Mostly horses. And their tails would be all braided. And their manes and everything. They'd be run? ning wild, and right nervous and every? thing . So they contacted the bishop or the priests or--the bishop, I guess, of the di? ocese there. And there was a bunch of"--I don't know if it was a bunch or a priest-- "came down with this cross. You'll see that, you'll see that cross up there. And they took the cross up there and planted it there." So sure enough, after dinner--I don't know if Noel ate his dinner. But anyway, we went--it wasn't too far from there, maybe 20 miles, I guess. So he said, "Stop here." I stopped. "Now," he said, "pull ahead a 'Z'> '-.T?' rT"'' ,' • Sf?*?*' little bit further, you'll see it better." So I pulled ahead a little bit further, and we stopped again. He said, "Look. And you see those marks coming down, like lit? tle brooks. Those are the marks put there by the fairies where they used to slide down, slide down." And my God, Noel was taken in by that, was he ever. So he said, "Drive up a little further, now." So I drove up a little further and stopped a- gain. "Now, look up," he said. "There's a cross there that the priests had put up. After they put that cross up there, that put an end to it. No more fairies. No more harassment, no more nothing." Well, my God, was Noel ever interested. Then it dawned on me, you know, now there must be some? thing to what he said about what he had seen, eh? Because the other fellow couldn't care less; he wasn't a bit inter? ested; he was eating away. And I ate all my dinner. But Noel--my God! YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. "Growing up can be a wonderful time but each year some 90 cases of child abuse or neglect are reported in Nova Scotia. Many other cases of physical, sexual or emotional abuse go unreported because no one wants to get involved. As a physician and parent I must report incidents of child abuse. But your help is needed too. If you know of or suspect child abuse or neglect, report it to your local family and children's agency. Social Services office or the police. Don't ignore the warning signs. Help a child and a family." Dr. John P. Anderson Director of Outpatient Services and Associate Pliysician-in-Chief, Izaak Walton Killam Hospital for Children CHILD ABUSE IS YTOCD' CONCERN. REPORT IT. . Social Services 1' Noel Francis told me a story; he was there with his father. His fa? ther was one of the primary prayer leaders in Barra Head--he had a lot of hymns. He was one of the old teachers of Indian hymns and prayers, Indian prayers. "So," he said, "this woman was dying. But she couldn't die. For some reason or other, she couldn't die. So," he said, "my father was saying the prayers out of this hieroglyphic book. And all of a sudden"--he had the book on either the chair or ta- ble--"all of a sudden, the leaves started to turn by themselves. They came to this one particular hymn. When it stopped, he knew the hymn, COME HOME TO KENT From the instant you step into a Kent Home, you know you've crossed the border from the ordinary to the extra? ordinary.
