had not got Rita MacNeil to be in it? 'Cause at this point in time Rita was well on her way. We had decided to do the show. Who's going to be in it? We ap? proached Ralph Dil? lon. And he was busy with Rita. And she was filling the larger bars and--I don't know if she had done her first Cohn at that point --but Rita was hot. They were taking a break. And The Re? vue show was only on for three weeks or whatever. And Rita's band was taking a break. Ralph was availa? ble . Great.... And I think it took me at least a week to realize--Steve laughs--that if Ralph was available, wouldn't therefore Rita be, too? Didn't even think about! And sure enough, she was, and she agreed to do it.... And we did use the name Rise and Follies as a sub-title--on the poster: "featuring, from the Rise and Follies," these people. Bette singing "Sydney, Glace Bay" to "New York, New York" • and as Mary Morrison We tied it in, unabashedly drew the con? nection. And I think that brought in peo? ple, too. It wasn't just everybody just came out to see Rita in this show. It was a mutual benefit. She would have got them anyway--but I think right away she added to her audience. And people came to see her, and we added to our audience. .??'
